Dumbo's number is up. His empire is on the wan. He's clasping for straws, desperate. Make the change in reporting line happen sooner rather than later - it's the dawn of a new day. Dumbo has no say in it. Forget the email - it's of no consequence because you were outlining the facts as they were presented to you. Any other leader would have done the same thing.
Good luck!

Hey, thanks! I will probably drop by HK in February. We had some more news today - we've been sold! I am having breakfast with my boss from HK tomorrow so we can swap Dumb Boss stories. In putting together the deal, it seems he has seen for himself the terrible, most evil sprog that is DUMB BOSS! You have a gorgeous heart - I love your spirit!

Glad to have read your blog and I definitely you have a bright future there somewhere. I'll miss your stories and writing.

If you're in Hong Kong or Asia somewhere, drop me a line. I'll buy you a drink.

Hi GC,

Wishing you lots of luck and strength! My GC friend is also facing the same issue but at a much smaller scale. Eventually, he was able to turn it around after getting management to see and understand that he (and you) were saving their butts from criminal and civil liabilities (by extension saving their careers).... Need to create that "aha!" moment for them and slay the DB once and for all!

All the best

I am glad you enjoyed our island of Paros and Greek food. We that live here look for every opportunity to eat non-Greek dishes. Yet still stay healthy from the mainstay Greek diet. It also has something to do with locally grown produce. The eggs in Oregon are tasteless in comparison.

Cheers,

We seem to think the same way! I have always found, though, that HR walks a fine line between what's right and what will serve the organisation. They are also very good at keeping their traps shut and not really letting you know their true opinions! This tends to leave you guessing, and they may not actually be the supporters they pretend to be.

Good luck with your changes. A much-needed change in the management team can be the right shot in the arm to re-energise the team. Can you think of a way to create a "shared experience" for the whole team - old and new? We recently did a volunteering day as a team and, although no-one could really spare the time for it, it was hands down the best thing we could have done. We ended up cleaning and setting up a great backyard in a house used by disadvantaged teenagers trying to make a life for themselves. Everyone loved it, and it meant we have a shared story as a team that joins people together.

Interesting chess-like maneuvers! Personally I've tried to hard to co-opt the HR function by being one of their defacto cross-functional cheerleaders. I'm sometimes more HR than my HR colleagues hah. Seems like very good stakeholder management going on by you!

It's interesting to note that your leadership is the glue for your team.... I have a similar parallel situation as well. Just got some needed shot of energy with new recruits - 50% of the managerial team joined Sept 1st. We have some survivor mentality to grapple with I think while integrating the new blood.

Good luck!

Thanks,Lui. I must confess I am more than a bit over corporate life - I am restlessly fantasising about spending months on end in Florence, learning Italian...with no direct reports and (above all) NO DUMB BOSS!
